This ES335 came to me from my good friend Paul. This instrument had been sitting in its case for several years and when Paul took it out to play he was discouraged to find it now had many problems and he was afraid it was beyond recovery.
I encouraged him to bring it over to my shop so that we could assess the damage and see what we could to to bring this once fine instrument back from the great beyond.
The images below document the high (and low) points of this repair.

Well, what do we have here? It appears to be in reasonable shape.
It has some rough edges and a couple of issues, but is definitely salvagable
Years of grunge and grime need to come off. Beneath it all the finish has checked beautifully and the lacquer has a lovely yellow tone.
It's hard to see here, but the bridge has become concave.
Bits of paper holding strings in the nut.
Strings are resting on the frets and most of the frets are flat topped.
The bridge before straightening
Getting ready to crown then repolish the frets
That nut Had to go!
Neck all cleaned up, ready to receive the new nut.
Here's the new nut, much better than the old worn one
Let's see Frets polished, neck oiled, new nut carved out of bone, saddle matches the radius of the neck, new strings, intonation set, pickups balanced and electronics cleaned
Saddle radius matches that of the neck.
Strings no longer sitting on the frets
Cleaned up pretty nice I'd say.
The final product ready for Paul. Not bad for 3 1/2 hours of work. :)
